About the Owners
The Martinsburg is a small local family-owned business operated by Clemens and Audrey Winner. Both are German born, and after having lived in different parts of Europe and the US, they ended up moving to Texas several years ago and discovered a passion for the Hill Country.
During a search for land in 2020, they fell in love with this beautiful 16-acre property in rural Stonewall, right in the midst of the Fredericksburg wine corridor. It was a challenging time in their lives with much personal turbulence and on top of that Audrey developed chronic illness. However, they found that whenever they spent time on this land, they both felt refreshed and experienced an instant sense of calm. Audrey even felt a bit of relief from her symptoms at the time. The views of the Pedernales Valley are so peaceful and the wildflowers and grasses on the property are wonderfully fragrant in the spring and summer. The sounds of birds singing feels calming. Clemens and Audrey wanted to share this relaxing experience with others and knew this was the right place to pursue their dream of building a small, thoughtfully designed boutique retreat. Offering their guests the same experience privacy, views, and a relaxing atmosphere is very important to them.
Both Clemens and Audrey share a passion for local food and Texas wine, local events and the arts.
Clemens is a project manager by trade and when he’s not working, you can find him biking the many county roads around Fredericksburg or enjoying a glass of beer and life music at the Albert Ice House down the road. Audrey is an architect, and it was important to her that the cabins are healthy buildings, thoughtfully designed to fit into the landscape and that they have a modern, yet cozy, rural vibe. She loves art and enjoyed selecting works for the interior of the cabins from mostly Texas artists, including some with disabilities.
We hope you enjoy your stay in this wonderful rural setting and have a great time exploring Stonewall and Fredericksburg.
